ABOUT INTERNATIONAL ASTEROID DAY
International Asteroid Day is a globally recognized awareness initiative observed every year on 30 June to increase public understanding of asteroids, their significance in our Solar System, and the importance of planetary defense. The date commemorates the Tunguska Event (1908), the largest recorded asteroid-related impact event in Earth's history.
Asteroid Day brings together scientists, educators, space organizations, and enthusiasts worldwide to promote awareness about Near-Earth Objects (NEOs), asteroid detection programs, impact risk assessment, and efforts to protect our planet from potential asteroid threats.
Through educational activities, public outreach, and scientific engagement, the initiative inspires curiosity about space science and encourages international cooperation in monitoring and studying asteroids.
